Swim spa prices
Swim spa prices depend on a number of factors although in most cases they are going to be expensive and set you back a few thousand dollars at the very least.
A general ballpark figure however is likely to be in the $15,000 to $40,000 price range, depending on the particular manufacturer and the sort of bells and whistles that you want to purchase with it.
Somewhat hidden costs
Aside from the swim spa itself, there is also the cost of installation which may also be very high due to the fact that it can be hard to find independent contractors who actually know how to install them.
Although these types of pools are increasing in popularity throughout the United States and indeed the world, they are still somewhat of a novel concept in some areas.
Just when you think you had every cost covered – you also have to consider what it will cost to maintain the unit once you have it installed.
Factors such as heating the water (which can be significantly reduced by considering high performance swim spa covers), parts maintenance and the price of obtaining the water itself must be budgeted for.
Don’t forget the electricity to power the jet mechanism which is the distinguishing feature of all such spas.
Try and read as many swim spa reviews as you can in order to get a feel for the different types of propulsion and how the each affect your budget differently.
A top of the range unit which is about 16 feet by 9 feet will definitely set you back in the region of $30,000-$40,000 but of course this means you won’t have to put up with public swimming pools and you’ll also be much more motivated to lose that extra 10 pounds you always said you would.
Swim spa prices will depend on the intended use, too
It is important to first figure out what you intend using the swim spa for. Do you want a dedicated exercise vessel or do you want a nice relaxing space at the end of the spa separate from the exercise area?
Consider that a swim spa that has one body of water only will all have to be the same temperature. You may want the spa section to be around 90 degrees but this means that the swimming section will have to be 90 degrees too.
Obviously this is not an ideal temperature to be swimming at, and regardless of whether or not the exercise portion is being used it will still have to be heated. This has the flow on effect of costing you more money in energy bills.
Striking the right balance
Finding the right swim spa for your needs will involve striking a balance between the initial cost and upkeep costs once you have it installed.
That is, try and find a swim spa that has separate bodies of water so that you can heat them independently and save on energy costs.

While the initial outlay will most likely be more, it is not hard to see how you will be able to recoup those costs in time with the right practices.
It would be easy to say that the only true swim spas are indeed those with separate water chambers, as it enables you to relax in warm water and exercise in relatively milder water.
When looking at swim spa prices make sure you can make the distinction between a dedicated dual-purpose spa and the smaller versions which usually have a piece of plexi-glass separating each section.
The larger, dedicated swim spa and hot tub combination units will obviously cost more because of the extra material that had to be used to create them. Not only that but they will require an extra set of plumbing including pumps, pipes and everything in between.
Swim spa prices – a sign of the times?
As little as a decade ago, the humble swim spa was competing against the much more popular formats of the home pool unit and hot tub.
They were very expensive – too expensive compared to other options on the market considering that you could buy a hot tub for about a quarter of the price.
Things started to change in the price department after a few years had passed.
Why? Partly because of the ever increasing amounts of technology that were being incorporated into new models and partly because of the increased insurance costs that builders and installers were forced to pass onto the consumer.
All of a sudden, a few astute business individuals realized that the swim spa prices could be attractive after all because they did not require landscaping and other associated costs and the majority of the units arrived prefabricated and ready to go (negating the need for qualified installers).
The rest as they say, is history and today the humble swim spa enjoys a strong presence in the marketplace.
Cheaper alternatives to dedicated swim spas
If you can’t quite afford the stretch of tens of thousands of dollars for a dedicated machine, then you can beat the hefty swim spa prices and fit a water propulsion jet to your existing swimming pool for as little as $3,000.
Of course, this is without even considering the cost of landscaping (not always necessary) or the multitude of other pool accessories and features that you really have to buy, but can probably get away with initially if you need more time to save up the money.
Obviously your existing pool or spa would have to be big enough to allow you to swim with arms and legs outstretched in the first place and be free of obstructions like seats or uneven bottoms.
